How do you stop your dog going to the toilet in your garden?

I know the obvious answer is not to let him in the garden in the first place but this summer it would be nice for us all to sit out there without him peeing and other things in front of us.

Unfortunately we house trained him by taking him out into the garden but now he is housetrained we want him to stop. He does hold it now and goes to the loo when we go for walks but everytime he goes out in the garden he pees or poos.

Any advice would be great.

How do you stop your dog going to the toilet in your garden?
don't see what the fuss is really but if you don't want to 'see' him do his wee's and poops then you need to designate a spot for him, screen off a corner with some willow or reed screening and encourage him to use this spot only, good luck!!!
Reply:Maybe u could try %26amp; restrict him to one spot. That's what I do. I have a small separate fenced area in the garden. Whenever I put my dog out I take her to this area and keep her there a few minutes and she does her job and I give her a word of praise. Now she knows what's expected of her. Of course now %26amp; then she marks her territory by peeing elsewhere but very rarely.

Reply:I'm sorry this will sound hard, but if you don't want him to do it in the house or in the garden then i don't think a dog is the right pet for you? It is only natural for him to do it in the garden, your luckly he is clean, some poor people on here have problems getting there loved ones to do there business outside and not in the house.

Where would you like your dog to go!!
Reply:ive got the same prob lol
Reply:well i do agree more walks.you cant expect him to hold it in while you and your family are sunning themselves in the garden.
Reply:Heres the answer, thank your luck that he does it in the garden!

He could be doing it on your sofa !

Maybe you should start again and grow orchids!
Reply:you can stop your dog from going pooes in the garden by going on more walks with it .
Reply:pepper actually works quite well
Reply:Let him and just clean up after him like 99% of dog owners do.
Reply:what do you expect.the poor dog is doing exactly what you taught him to do.its not his fault that you have moved the goalposts.you will just have to be very patient.praise when he performs in the right place, and clean any trace of scent from the usual spots in the garden.if you start now,you should have him retrained by the summer.good luck.
Reply:yar and
Reply:what can i say you shouldn't of trained him to go in the garden also hes sent marking you could try leaving some down he may not do it a much
Reply:had the same problem my self with my Labrador, the dog has to be retrained. what worked for me was when the dog was due to go outside i rushed him to a grass area near by and the waited. it was not pleasant for me but it was more unpleasant for him. eventually nature took over and he had to go so he got Lott's of praise. a couple of goes at this and he got the message. thereaint no magic cure.

A question for men
