Can anyone help. My next door nieghbour has a 34' sycamore tree in the front garden?

The tree is about 5 meters from my property which is a bungalow. I have found roots at my front door which have lifted the flags. The door is about 7 meters from the tree. It blocks the sun from my garden until mid afternoon and I have to put my lights on well before anyone else. Can anyone tell me how far a tree of that size should be away from the house and is there anything I can do about it. Its taller than the house and Im getting very concerned. They wont do anything about it it just keeps growing.

Check within your city's ordinances regarding hazardous trees. You may have some recourse there. Would talk to your home insurance regarding what they would do in the event of any tree damage. Your neighbor only sees $ when you try to get action. Oh yes, sycamores get huge, drop major leaves, their bark and seed pods.
Reply:You really need to talk to your neighbor about that tree and cutting it back. I do not know where you live but a good thunderstorm can generate wind gusts of up to 60 MPH and that is more than enough to blow a branch off and whip it into your house. As far as the roots go, there is not really much of a solution for that. I do not like any branches hanging over my house because if just one snaps off and hits the house then it can do a lot of damage and cost quite a bit of money. I say go talk to your neighbor and explain to them your concerns about the tree.
