Is there a height restriction for trees in a garden next to a highway in the UK?

I have erected a 1 meter high garden fence which is next to a highway. I want to plant some small trees. I need to know if there are any height restrictions for the trees. Can they be higher than the 1 meter high gfence ?

I believe there's no restriction for single trees but two or more conifers would constitute a hedge and may have limitations. Best check with your local council or Citizens Advice Bureau.
