Can I burn all the weeds in my garden area?

I have a large garden area, 50' x 25' that is full of weeds. I have not planted there in years because of all the weeds that grow. I have put down tarps but believe me, that has not worked. I want to pour gasoline and it and TORCH IT!, it that a good idea?

During the spring or summer,cut your weeds as close to ground level as possible. Compost all the cut weeds properly. Water the complete garden area thoroughly. Buy enough clear plastic tarping to cover the area. Make sure all the plastic edges are buried or held down by bricks. The sun will heat up the moist soil %26amp; will kill most weeds %26amp; weed seed after about a week of bright sunshine. Remove the plastic %26amp; pull/hoe any remaining weeds. Do any necessary ground preparation. Plant your garden using landscape fabric with compost holding the cloth down. A few weeds may pop up but they should be easy to pull up.

Keep your garden weeded on a weekly basis. That will keep any new weeds from becoming established o setting seed.

Reply:I would suggest you check with your local fire district and see if they can do a "control burn" for you. That way, you won't have to worry about catching the neighborhood on fire.
Reply:I would think that gasoline would leech into the ground and you wouldn't be able to plant anything there for a very long time due to the environmental hazard. Instead, get yourself a scuffle hoe and get your exercise. In less time than you can imagine the scuffle hoe will have all of the weeds and whatever else might be growing there removed and you will be able to plant immediately versus waiting for an herbicide to take effect. It really doesn't take much time and it is good exercise. :) Good luck.

A FIRE WILL GET THE AUTHORITIES ON YOUR CASE! USE A ONE TIME WEED KILLER SUCH AS "ROUND-UP" WHICH WILL KILL THE WEED--ROOT AND ALL. BUT WILL ALLOW PLANTS TO BE PLANTED AFTER 2 WEEKS SAFELY.
Reply:hello, i have had the same garden problems you are having now.. however if you want to burn it than i recommend taking a tiller and going around the outside of your garden to prevent the fire from spreading to your grass and possibly your house.. otherwise a better way that works great... go to home depot or fleet farm and get round up there are many different varities, i however got the one that comes in like a brown bronze colored bottle.. it is about 20 dollars per jug and if you have a garden the size of mine you will be spending a lot. otherwise if you have a tiller keep working your garden area over and over... and then get a bottle of weed preventer from walmart not very expenseive but works great once all weeds are knocked down and tilled in.. it prevents weeds from growning again. best of luck
