What to plant in a novice's kitchen garden?

I've just started my own kitchen garden, it currently consists of tomatoes, potatoes and various herbs. I only have a small patio space, but I'm keen to make as much of the area and grow as much as I can in containers, or perhaps on the windowsills indoors.

Any ideas of simple things to grow, and how to make best use of the space? I'm considering hanging baskets for herbs...

Strawberrys grow well in planters, you can also do sunflowers, and carrots if you get deep enough planters.

Baskets for herbs are a good idea. also there are soil=less pland growing stands, they work well for potatos, turnips, i think even carrrots and tomatos.

good luck
Reply:Tomatoes and herbs are a good start. Bush type cucumbers can be grown in containers. If your patio has a railing or lattice climbing vines like pole beans can work. Just place the container at the base and let the vines climb. Strawberries do well in haanging baskets.
Reply:Runner beans are almost fool proof and can be grown in a container with the help of some canes.
Reply:Perhaps squash and cucumbers grown on trellis or string.
