How can I stop my dogs wee burning the garden grass?

My dog's (female) wee is burning patches of my garden. I have tried adding tomato ketchup to her food, but this hasn't made any difference...does anyone know of any other remedies?????

How can I stop my dogs wee burning the garden grass?
The only (partial) solution that we've found is to train our female to only wee in one corner of the garden, behind some shrubs - we take her there on a lead at wee time!
Reply:Sorry, nothing you can feed your dog will keep her pee from burning the plants. The only remedy is to force her to not urinate in the same spot over and over.
Reply:You are probably not giving her enough Ketchup, make sure she has a tea plate full before bed, that should sort out the problem. Good luck.
Reply:take her out of the garden to some woods instead of just opening the back door.
Reply:Would advise you to give her tomato juice in her food every other day instead of tomato ketchup. Give her about 1 and a half table spoons and you should see a difference. We use this with our girl and it has improved slightly. Is she spayed or not? Spayed females wee is less acidic.
Reply:well, ketchup will make it worse because of the acidity level... however, if you get your dog to drink more fluids, then it will decrese the acidity level in her urine, therefore not burning spots in your lawn.
Reply:Put up a sign.KEEP OFF THE GRASS.

Do you grill the bacon when you give it Tomatoe Ketchup??

"You need to train it to go to a particular spot regularly" then give a treat with praise.

Put pepper on spot she is spoiling.
Reply:I think you can buy a post that has a scent on it that makes them go near it, or you could try fencing off the grass and just having one area where she goes to the toilet, i had this problem so i paved over my grass and now i have slabs down
Reply:flag it
Reply:Take her out! duh!
Reply:you follow her out with a watering can and put whole can of water over it as soon as she's finished peeing....it will definitely work
Reply:Your problem is you are feeding her too much french fries and not enough ketchup. I used to eat french fries when I had teeth
Reply:There are food additives and supplements available that neutralize the acid in your dog's urine to help prevent grass burns.

Greenum Tablets and Green-um Treats stop dog urine from causing brown spots on lawn- naturally. All natural herbs and vitamins in Green-ums do not harm dogs kidneys or change the PH level in dogs urine. It passes with the urine to neutralize the nitrogen that burns green grass. See info about the manufacturer Mark and Chappell and other Green-um products. www.green-um.com

Frequent watering, or, even better, soaking the grass the grass after your dog has eliminated, will help prevent the burn spots from appearing by watering down the nitrogen from urine.
Reply:Teach her to use the toilet , or follow her with a hose and dilute the wee.
Reply:Never heard the ketchup idea before. Where did that come from?

You can buy what is called a "pee-post" from pet shops. It attracts the dog to pee on it. If you stick the post in a particular corner of the garden you may be able to limit the burning patches to a small section of the garden. Reinforce this by praising her when she uses the post.

The only other option I can think of is to try walking her more so she "empites out" whilst on the walk, keeping your garden spotless. That can obviously be time-consuming, though.
Reply:yes as soon as your dog has done a pee pour a bucket of water over the area that it had its pee or the dogs pee will kill the grass
Reply:let her wee on the path then hose it down(path not dog)lol
Reply:cork her up!!!
Reply:Have you seen the gallon jugs of water set out on lawns? This makes the dogs not go on the grass.
Reply:Try giving her straight tomato juice. It is the only thing that really works.
Reply:Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Reply:nothing it's urine. yours would do the same thing. it's the chemical make up.
Reply:I've heard an unspayed female's urine is more likely to kill grass than a spayed female. Not sure if it's true.
Reply:nothing you can do only take her out .let her have a pee in field .
Reply:the only real cure is to tip a bucket of water over the area immediately after she has urinated to dilute the acid. If she is neutered then she will be less likely to affect the grass, but its not a definite answer, as it really simply the fact that urine is acidic.
Reply:fill some bottles full of water and place them all over your grass. your dog WILL NOT go there again. This is because they associate the water with what they drink and refuse to wee near it!
Reply:soak it with water---it will dilute the acid in the wee
Reply:Dig the grass up
Reply:the only thing you can do about it is teach her to wee someplace else.sorry...
Reply:dont think there is anything you can do I'm afraid.
Reply:Rub acid on its bits and it will pass a motorbike before it wants a slash again
