I want to plant a garden. Should it get morning or afternoon sun or both?

I am really interested in learning how to can vegatables this year since the cost of food is getting so high. I want a garden and have all the things to get started except where to plant it. Should it get sun in the morning or afternoon or should it be in the sun all day? I have the option for doing all three so which is best and will provide the greatest gardening results?

Full sun, all day. If you're going to grow tomatoes you want Indeterminant (as opposed to determinant) plants/seeds, they produce all season (determinants only produce one crop, then they're done.)
Reply:for a vegie garden 6 hrs. sun minimum is vey important, use mulch to keep roots cool and moist
Reply:Morning sun, because I believe we will have a hot summer. You can water in the evening shade.
Reply:A lot depends on what you are going to grow. Generally speaking, a vegetable garden needs as much direct light as possible.

If you want to go with some shade, again I would choose the which ever has sunlight longer

Shade tends to promote mildew and gives slugs more time to gnaw at the plants. It also generally slows the ripening process.

Corn, carrots, onions, garlic, green beans. peppers, and tomatos especially seem to do better for me in full sun.
Reply:Full sun always...About the only vegetable that really likes a shady place can be lettuce..then it still likes some sun...
