Cleaning things in the garden with bleach - is this damaging to the living things in the garden?

Apparantly, we will have to use bleach to clean some of the things in our garden (due to birds, germs etc) - will the bleach/waste water that flows from the rinsing be damaging to the garden?

Yes. Don't let it run onto lawn or soil with plants growing in it. Wash it over a concrete or paved area, or over a piece of waste ground. If you cant do that becuse what you're washing is immovable you'll have to dig up the plants near to the area you're washing, pour many watering cans of water on the soil that bleach has touched and then replant.
Reply:Well I should think that is just about a YES,
Reply:bleach kills all things good and bad...i dont even use bleach products in the home, and the clean company i work for do not use bleach.
Reply:yes
Reply:only if it seeps to the plants and growing items.
Reply:Yes.

I use bleach to kill the moss that grows on the bricks on our patio. Once, when the wind was blowing (as I was cleaning), bleach got on a succulent and the lawn. I flooded them with water as soon as I saw what was happening. The succulent died, the grass struggled for over a month but came back.
Reply:Yeh, and what about the poor lil bugs and worms that maintain the eco-system in your garden too? Can't understand why you'd have to use bleach for anything. If debris is cleared up regularly and the garden attended to there should be no problem with germs, but I'm not quite sure I understand what you're saying. And birds? What problem do they create that requires bleach? I think a second opinion from someone who fully understands the problem and gardens is what's needed! Could try garden centre or local gardening college.
Reply:Bleach aint that good for living things. Just make sure the run off bleach solution gets diluted-- Maybe spray it with hose or watering can.
Reply:YES!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Bleach, in strong concentration can kill anything on the planet. If you wash something with bleach, make sure to dilute it thoroughly when rinsing. Another alternative is Lye. It is strong enough to kill bacteria, and it is very caustic to skin and eyes, but when you dilute it enough, it is safe enough to rinse down into the grass.
