What is the length and width of the garden?

Jarod is having a problem with rabbits getting into his vegetable garden, so he decides to fence it in. The length of the garden is 7 feet more than 2 times the width. He needs 44 feet of fencing to do the job.

What is the length and width of the garden?
start out with the length equaling 2x+7 and the width equaling x

times each by 2 and add together to get 44

2(2x+7) + 2x=44

simplify

4x+14+2x=44

6x+14=44

6x=30

x=5

2(5)+7

10+7

17

the width is 5 and the length is 17
Reply:Perimeter = 2L + 2W

The perimeter is 44 feet. The length is 2W+7 (7 feet more than two times the width).

Thus:

44 = 2(2W+7) + 2W

44 = 4W + 14 + 2W

44 = 6W + 14

30 = 6W

5 = W

If the width is 5 feet, then the length is (2)(5) + 7 = 17 feet
Reply:2x+4x+14=44

2x+4x=30

6x=30

x=5

Width=5

Length=17
