What is a good garden tiller to buy?

my grandpa is looking to buy a light weight gas powered

garden tiller for his small garden. he hired someone to break the grass sod last year so now he needs to get something

to maintain the garden

What is a good garden tiller to buy?
there are so many brands and types of tillers it can be really confusing to pick one. For small areas (10 feet by 10 feet) a really good small light weight tiller is called the MANTIS. Made by Little Wonder. Probably the best in its class. Cost is about 300.00 U.S. You see them advertised on T.V. from time to time.

For larger areas it really gets confusing and lots of choices.

Sears offers many intermediate size units that will do the job and last a reasonable amount of time with minimum problems at a good price. But if quality is job 1 and you want a machine to last for a long long time and are willling to pay the price check into B.C.S.

Troybilt used to be one of the best until they were bought out by one of the mega manufacturers but has really declined in the recent decade to nothing special except the price.

Bottom line is really an old adage that says "you get what you pay for" in the lawn a garden industry this is pretty close to true. Not always, but in general, the more pricey the equipment is the more or better material it has and the sturdier it will be.

All the companies want you to buy their product so try to make a product that will give you best performance for least dollars. Try to factor in the repair cost and ease of access to repair facilities. Check your local lawnmower shop and see what brands that they support. They can be very helpful with matching you up to the right machine and they will be able to get you parts and service quickly.

Your question really hit a nerve with me because I owned a lawnmower shop for 25 years and just shut it down a couple years ago. The fact that you have to go online to ask this question makes me think that your local shop is not very trustworthy or charges way too much so you don't go to them. It shouldn't be a stress point in your life to choose a piece of gardening equipment and your local business should help you and guide you without stressing you out.
Reply:One with a Honda engine in it. I am the American made supporter from way back. But we have three tillers now that do not run because they are Briggs %26amp; Stratton engines. A friend of ours had a Honda engine on his tiller which had been sitting outside for a couple years, and offered it to us to use because he doesn't need it. It has been sitting outside side for two more years now. It fires on the first or second pull faithfully. It has great power. Those engines run forever and their is just nothing we have seen to compare to it. Most good mechanics, asmy husband is, will tell you how reliable and low maintenence the Honda engines are. Good Luck and hope this helped.

Reply:I would say troy built tillers are the best, they have the best reputation, best warrenties, and work great. here is a link with the different models available. You can also call them directly and talk with someone about your specific needs.
