Ideas to stop a dog urinating in my garden bed?

I have a 12 yr old border collie that either digs or wees on every plant in the back yard. I have plastic drink bottles %26amp; plastic bags around special plants to stop them from being killed %26amp; was just wondering if anybody knows what can be used to stop him entering the garden bed %26amp; cause its a large area I cant fence it off.

Sprinkle Cayenne Pepper (the spice) over the plants that you want to protect or the areas you want him to stay away from. You may have to repeat after a rain. The pepper will irritate his nose (won't harm him!!!!) and he will go sniff (and pee)somewhere else. I used this to keep neighbor dogs away from a school bus stop. Worked great!!

Good Luck!!
Reply:this is really funny, but it worked for my neighbor,,,she had her husband pee around the perimeter of her garden,,,the presence of 'alien' urine stopped him in his tracks (the dog, not the husband)
Reply:don't let collie enter your garden, and leash it somewhere.
Reply:its called a 22 cent shell !
Reply:put cat pictures around the garden bed see if that scares him or try to buy a fence (maybe metal ones cause he can't break it) give him a place to dig and pee (like a sandbox and hide interesting things like bones,toys,cans...)
Reply:Dear Swiftswife,

So many facets to consider -

Did he grow up there?

If not, how long's he been there?

Has something in the household changed?

i.e. - new pet? new baby?

All these factors can really affect a border collie %26amp; his territory.

Given all that; if he's just being himself, I found with just about any dog--they won't go in the exact place they've been if they smell their own poop. So, I'd bury little bags of it in cheesecloth(with markers of course!) not too deep; and observe what he does. Hopefully it works %26amp; you can remove them after (hopefully) a short time. Let's hope this isn't a case of "old dog-new tricks"

GOOD LUCK! signed Picklish
