i have just finished garden, half is turfed and i have put wood bark down on the other half for daughter, nieces+nephews and friends kids to play on, but all the local cats keep crapping in the bark. without shooting them, what is the best way of stopping them ?
How can i stop cats crapping in garden ?
as a cat owner I cant condone the fact that ppl are saying shoot cats - these are ppls possesions and mean a hell of a lot to the owners. Ppl dont shoot dogs do they coz they crap on verges? They dont know any different its just what they do.
I do understand where you're coming from and that you dont want them doing what they do in your garden. There are many humane and successful ways that you can stop them. There are many products available that work - available in places like B%26amp;Q and DIY stores - normally consisting of a spray or things that can be put down in the garden. Also betterware do strips with plastic spikes on that deter cats - although not sure how effective these are.
Its a well known fact that cats hate citrus smells - especially orange so you could place orange peel down this is an enviromentally safe idea too. Im sure that if you put something in google it will also supply a lot of answers.
Please dont ever harm a cat, its only doing what it does and doesnt know any different, and they are beloved pets to someone. :o)
Hope you're successful. xxx
Reply:LOL, great question, seems you chose the right answer, i loved reading the answers every1 gave.
Anyways, for some of the aswerers, do not hurt cats !!! Report It
Reply:Try Oil of Citronella, you can buy it at a chemists, it's a very strong lemon smell, cats hate it.
Reply:poison them. they will die
Reply:get a dog a big one though
Reply:try rat traps or rabbit snares
Reply:To begin with - this is truly not a joke! But I have it on good authority that lion poo placed at strategic places will scare cats off.
Now that depends, of course, on where you live. I'm lucky enough to live in a seaside resort with a zoo (though I've never asked them for lion poo!) If you live 50 miles from the nearest one then that's obviously a non starter.
My daughter keeps a spray bottle of water (or a water pistol would do), to discourage unwanted feline visitors.
My mind has been exploring the possibilities of rigging up some kind of alarm that barks like a dog - but I'm sure I don't know how you'd do it. Good luck anyway - that's not a nice problem when there are children about!
Reply:root ginger, buy a dog
Reply:frighten the life out of them few times.
Reply:put some kind of detterent down, something that will make them jump, like jack in the boxes or something of that nature, that will startle them when they approach it
Reply:Get a cat yourself..... it will mark its territory and prevent other cats coming in. Best of all, your cat will go crap in someone elses garden! (cos they don't crap on their own doorstep)
Reply:water the ground ,or flood the ground. my mom use to do ,that it makes the dirt too hard so cat cant dig it to make a hole.do every so often, cats also dont like wet ground too.
Reply:Get a tin of salmon and open it, leave it somewhere for a week in the warm, then leave it for the cats to eat.
They wont be coming back near you again!
Reply:Get rid of your garden.
Reply:HOT chili flakes,red%26amp; black pepper, sprinkled in the bark. Please don't hurt them, they don't know they are doing wrong, they just think you've put a big litter-box in for them.If you know who they belong to,ask the owners to keep them indoors.
Reply:When I made a sand pit for my daughter, I made a netting cover, suspended a few inches above the sand, to keep them out.
Short of that, you could try prayer.
Good luck.
Reply:I use a Ruger 10-22 but other calibers work well also.
Reply:shoot them , thats the only way i think
Reply:Shoot them
Reply:I have several cats who are good enough to go to the loo in my neighbour's gardens. I have found, through experience, that cats do not like dogs. One of my neighbours has recently acquired a dog and he informs me that my cats no longer use his garden as a lavatory. However, his dog does and it craps on a much larger scale than all of my cats put together. It is a prodigous dumper for a small dog.
My cats are discerning and do not like the smell of dogs or their waste matter. They therefore take their business elsewhere. However, in place of a dumping dog, you could try the following.
1. feed your neighbours cats. If they like you, they will go to the loo elsewhere and leave your garden alone. They wil see your garden as an oasis and will keep it clean. They may even try to move in with you. Your neighbour will be alarmed at that prospect and deter the cats from visiting you.
2. buy a male cat of a large breed and it will surely try to fight your neighbour's cats. It may well try to mate with them as well but this dependends on their gender.
3. buy a small dog that does little dumps.
4. Replace the bark with large pebbles and move the children's playarea to the turfed area.
5. Obtain a dog barking sensor. Everytime a cat comes in, the sensor emits a barking sound. This will drive you mad initially but may work.
Reply:Is it a neighbours cat or are there several using your garden? You can buy anti cat deterrents that run on batteries, which gives the offending cat a very small electric shock.
Also, although this may sound ridiculous, if you could get hold of some lion dung and place some in your garden, cats wont come anywhere near it. Have you a local zoo maybe?
Reply:Nowt worse than a cat crappin on the green stuff, shootin is probably a bit extreme but sure to work.I myself take great pleasure in sitting at the window with a catapault and a bag of moth balls(dead eye dick from a distance),Take aim and as they squatt PING straight in the japs eye,you should see them run, great fun to.
Other than that get a dog..but then you gotta get a bigger catapault for the dog coz he's gonna be the next to crap out there..
Reply:My girlfriends boss had the same problem. Through a friend of a friend he got lion poo from the zoo. The cats smelled it and wouldn't go near for months.
Reply:I have heard that catnip stops it...
Reply:Oh I love this one, bane of my life years ago. Just get lots of short bamboo. any sticks will do. four inches apart. cats cannot get in to poo. they do not look too good, but stops the cats, and the cats soon learn, they cannot go there, so after a few thousand years......well weeks,, some do not leave their calling card. i just love the thought of a cat settling down to do a nice jobby and getting a stick right up its jacksie. cruel person that i am. if all this fails shoot em... shal we report abuse.....good luck

Reply:you can buy these really unharmfull things from DIY store ie B%26amp;Q its like powder and cats doesnt like the smel of that
Reply:open a chinese take away. cats allways disappear when one does!
Reply:Get a few empty 2 litre bottles of cola or any other kinda juice.... peel off labels and fill with water. Place these around affected area or anywhere in garden. When a cat comes near these its eyes reflect on the bottle of water causing the cat to frighten itself and run off before getting the chance to do the deed!!
Reply:Chili powder sprinkled on the lawn. It doesnt damage the flowers and cats cat stand the smell.....
Reply:Put moth balls around the out side of the garden, a few here and there. My mom also used orange peels.
Reply:Sprinkle the affected areas with DDT.
