Whats the best way to get rid of weeds from your garden?

I have a lot of weeds growing in my garden. I have been manually removing them but I am finding it extremely tough to control their growth since they seem to be springing up soon after I get rid of a few. Are there some weed killers available that won't kill my plants that I can use?

the safest way and most eco-sound would be to lay sheets of newspaper down between your plants about 10 sheets thick and then cover with mulch. then the next season you can turn the degraded paper back into your garden.
Reply:sure, Roundup is a good one. easier is to lay wet newspapers between the rows so no light gets to the weeds. It will look bad but make life far easier.
Reply:TRY THE LAZY MAN METHOD

use grass clippings around your plants

they hold moisture and nutrients

keep adding clippings as needed

in return you will get great crops and you will be adding organic material to your soil

till in after harvest or wait till spring

THIS REALLY WORKS ORGANICALLY!
Reply:You could try laying garden plastic down in your garden area if you have a lot of plants you will have to cut holes in the plastic around your plants and then lay mulch on top of the plastic it works well unless you have plants that will spread the seeds from your existing plants will never touch the ground therefore they will not spread.
Reply:weed killer dosnt usually kill your plants, but it depends on which one you get. personelly i would just take out the plants i want to keep (if it's that bad) and put them into pots, then use black bags over the area to make the weeds die because of lack of sun light. but you will have to take the covers off and wait a few weeks for the rest of the weeds to start fighting back, and then do it again. and repeat the process till they cant fight any more.

dont dig them out or rake them over, as you will be breaking them apart and spreading them everywere!

the best thing i have found (i just remembered) is a blow torch ( the ones used for DIY, the fire torches) and you just burn slightly the leaves of the plants you want to get rid of, and this dramatically weakens the weeds. (dont burn them to a crisp just scald) and eventually they will die if you keep at it.

persistance is the key to any solution. even if you think theres no more, if your using weed killer or somethink, give them one last blast to make sure there totally gone!
Reply:havent tried the newspaper method myself, but that sounds like pretty good advice for larger problem spots. for the smaller weeds around/in other plants that you are unable to manually remove id suggest using a weed and grass killer.

what i do is pour some into a small plastic cup (so that im able to bend the cup after im done and return the herbicide back into its original container), put on some latex gloves, dip my fingers into the herbicide, and then rub my fingers over the weeds that im having problems with. this works especially well with weeds growing within other plants like groundcovers and other dense plants. sometimes it will take a few applications to completely kill off the weeds, but even if it doesnt kill them it usually will weaken them enough to the point that if you pull them out as best you can they wont have the strength to come back. gl
Reply:Miracle gro makes a great product called weed prevent. Since you have been manually removing them, try sprinkling some weed prevent around. I also like to use weed X cloth in my gardens to prevent grass and weeds from growing in my flower beds.
Reply:you could just lay down newspapers... or landscaping cloth over them... use a bit of cedar mulch... not any other kind... slugs may be attracted to other types... water will filter through, weeds cannot grow through and your other plants' roots will stay moist and tucked away from the sun.

good luck
Reply:put mambranes down and then wood chipping on top to stop weed coming through.
Reply:The most successful system is to remove them by hand, then cover the surrounding soil with sugarcane mulch to a depth of 10cm. When laying down the mulch make sure you give the plant and surrounding soil a good watering then lay the mulch down and water again to settle the sugarcane down. this method will save you 75% of watering as the sun can't reach the ground and dry it up so fast.
Reply:get weed killer spray or pull them by the roots
Reply:ortho round up
