What Are The Conflicts Of The Secret Garden?

I've read The Secret Garden but I'm having trouble identifying the conflicts. (sp)

I think that one is when Mary finds the secret garden and wants to keep it a secret and another is getting Colin to keep his secret of getting better. What is the main or biggest conflict? What are some others?

What Are The Conflicts Of The Secret Garden?
This novel can best be classified using the German term bildungsroman which means a coming-of-age novel. It is also a novel with philosophical underpinnings.

Its basis is the philosophic movement defined as New Thought. New Thought is more than a century old and, therefore, should not be confused with New Age. The practice promotes fullness of all aspects of living. It has been recognized as "The Religion of Healthy-Mindedness" by William James in The Varieties of Religious Experience. New Thought involves habitual good, and aligned mental self-discipline. New Thought affirms freedom of belief of each person.

This last point is integral to The Secret Garden. The major conflict in The Secret Garden is between each character and his own negative thoughts. If indeed each character has freedom of belief of each person, then a transformation in character is indeed possible. There are two protagonists and they each undergo a major transformation.

Mary hodges Burnett was inspired by this philosophy through her own life when her son died.
Reply:i think it is between colin and his father
Reply:I thought that the biggest conflict was between the uncle and everyone else. He was a bitter old hunchback that abandoned his son because he was grieving over the loss of his wife. He resented having Mary there and he treated his servants poorly.
