How do you stop the cats pooing in plant pots in the garden?

Please only answer with suggestions that you know actually work.

I've tried the citrus thing, the mirror thing and the bottles of water none of them keep the pests out.

I'm going to try one last time before I take the pots and empty them in the owners garden.

Please save me from starting a dipute with my neighbour.

there is a product which garden centres doo, called 'get off' its a green / blue crystals or an aerosol spray (cfc free) which stinks lovley to humans but yuck to cats and dogs.
Reply:my answer is not associated with ANY chemicals! Report It
Reply:How about sprinkling pepper around the top of the pots. They always sniff around first, that should put them of, but you'll have to keep renewing the pepper. It won't hurt them just repel them.

You can buy lion dung to put on gardens. No idea what it costs. That scares them away apparently.
Reply:Chicken wire over the top of the pots works well. I used to have a cat who thought that plant pots were ceramic cat toilets until I started doing this. It's easy enough to shape to allow the plants room to grow.

There is no point getting in a dispute with your neighbour. Cats are not considered to be domestic animals so owners have no responsibility for their actions. If you dump the contents in the owners gardens you are the one who would be breaking the law.

A water pistol is a good idea if you see them but mostly you don't get to catch them in the act. One pld neighbour of mine had a motion detector connected to his sprinkler system. That worked very well for cats and for small boys who thought they could get their balls back without asking.
Reply:cayenne pepper on top of the dirt
Reply:get a lion. or failing that buy lion dung from your nearest zoo.
Reply:Clip a rose bush that has rosebush needles on it and add the small pieces to the top of the plant soil. The first time the cats paw in the soil they get a rude awakening. It doesn't hurt them they just don't like it and it will cure any digging in a pot very quickly. I have used this technique since I picked up two cats.

After your cats are broken from plants you can remove the, But you may still get a stray cat so I leave mine in. Rose branch pieces do not hurt the soil in any way Denise http://thegardenersrake.com
Reply:get a dog
Reply:try planting some Coleus Canina they hate the smell of it
Reply:well i would say airgun but lastime i said that my answer was taken off
Reply:Personally i would get a Live trap. and put it in your garden.. catch the cat, and take it over to your neighbor.. say is this yours? if they say yes, tell them to go clean your garden.. if they say no, then tell them your taking the cat to the pound.
Reply:a 12 guage.
Reply:get them off the ground
Reply:i put some wire mesh around the plant which goes up a couple of inches. The cats dont like it cos its a bit spikey.
Reply:shove corks up their butts
Reply:Get some "Scent Off" pellets from the garden centre or DIY.
Reply:a breezeblock dropped on the cats head is usually a good deterent. why should you as a tax payer have to suffer all the crap that comes from neighbours going "its only a pussy cat" i'm sick of having to clean my doorstep of dog crap, bastard neighbours let their half blind dog stroll the area and crap wherever it wants, off the leash off course. they pay ****** all towards upkeep of the area i however do!. no offense to you love but heres the pisser. if a dog craps in your garden your not allowed to kill it whilst in your garden, as for cats you are allowed to kill it, your also allowed to run a cat over in your car, but with a dog your meant to stop and give the dog the same rights as a pedestrian. i guess you can already tell that i hate cats and dogs. if a cats in your garden just kill the mofo and be done with it. throw its carcass over the fence.
Reply:you cant, thats what cats do (ha ha get it - do?). If they had a clean litter box, they would leave the plant alone, but its too late now cause they are familier with the plant.
Reply:I guess you don't like cats very much or I'd suggest getting yourself a boy cat.

Cats are very territorial and he wouldn't allow another cat in his garden. Mine wouldn't even let a dog put its paws on his front drive - imagine a big yellow and black Abysinnian hurtling down the drive straight for a boxer dog's face!

How about scrunching up chicken wire around the plant stem? You can still water through the wire but nothing for the moggies to scratch at nor can they get near the earth.
Reply:take the pots away.
Reply:I saw this on Martha Stewart for house plants...put toothpicks in them,,,then when the cat goes to scratch, they get poked, but not hurt...Martha thought it was barbaric, but it's better than my asshole next door neighbor that put razor blades in his garden to keep the cats out!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:very simple-- cover with wire netting. --the plant pots-NOT your neighbour!
Reply:i think the best thing is if you know the owner of the cat speak to him and see if he /she is prepared to to come and remove the litter from your garden
Reply:ive tried allsorts myself, only way i know of is if you actually catch them going to the pots, if you have 1 of those big childrens water guns keep it to hand full of water, squirt it at the cat every time you see it in your garden, they hate getting wet. my neighbour has same problem but he gets a handful of gravel and chucks it at them. i bought and tried the high pitched noise thing (£40 wasted) it doesnt work.
Reply:you can buy this box that sits in your garden, it can be bought from most garden shops and it emits high noices which only cats can hear which they do not like and keeps them out of your garden

the link below will show you what i mean
Reply:moth balls
Reply:There is a chemical repellent that you can buy and spray around the plants (don't put it one them if you can help it) that the cats can smell but will hate and stay away from. Buy it at wal-mart in the pets section.
Reply:there is a plant called the scaredy cat plant...believe or not ..but cats do not like the smell ...or if you see the cat doing any sacratching near your plant arm yourself with a water pistol...i know that one really works!!
Reply:Put moth balls in the your potted plants. Cats do not like the smell.
Reply:Sprinkle pepper in the pots
Reply:Cats like light loose material to scrape around, like recently moved soil and bark chippings. So after cleaning out the poo, give it a good rinsing with slightly soapy water, and apply a layer of the heaviest pebbles you can fit in the pots to the top surface. A lot of cats will be deterred if they can't even try to cover up their poo.

The other option would be something to stop them taking aim. Something prickly should do it, perhaps some holly leaves or anything that will give them a sore bottom when they squat down.
Reply:cat mint they hate it
