I have several different pepper plants and tomato plants in my garden but every time I go outside some cat has decided to poop in my garden! HELP!!!!!!!
How do I keep stray cats from using my garden as a giant litter box?
There are also motion sensitive sprinkler systems you can get at the garden center. If a cat walks into the range of the sensor it turns on the sprinkler. After a couple blasts of cold water they will find other places to be. Works well for keeping the birds and other wildlife from raiding your garden too.
Reply:i have no idea, im sorry to hear about that
Reply:sprinkle some cayenne pepper in and around your garden- you will have to do this periodically as rain and watering will wash it away- it is a safe and natural way to go, but effective.
Reply:I have 5 cats and love gardening. This is a bit of an oxymoron, but I deal with it from the cats' point of view. It's a giant kitty litter and is much cleaner than the indoor litter box. I leave a space just for them a few inches away from the plants, so they don't dig them up when they cover up. If it's just pee, I dilute it with water from the hose. The soil here is alkaline and probably could use some acidic urine to balance it. As for the other stuff, I keep a pooper scooper outside just for this purpose. Well, that's me. I'm a cat person.
For you, you could lay down chicken wire before putting in your plants. They don't like it because it prevents them from digging. Their claws get caught in it.
I like the idea of using sprinklers with sensors. I'll look for those next time I'm at the hardware store. I'd just love to see the look of horror that the cats would get when it suddenly goes off.
Reply:I agree with the cayenne pepper, I also use moth balls as they can't stand the smell (regular garden), but not in my veggie garden. I ended up putting up a chicken wire fence and then covering over the top of the fence with bird netting. Sounds like an awful lot of work I know, but it pays off in the end. Good luck.
