I want to make an herb and vegetable garden for my boyfriend but i don't know how to begin. Does anyone have any suggestions?
What is the best/easiest to start a garden??
Hi
First step is to pick a good location. Something that gets lots of sun and doesn't have a lot of roots of big trees to dig through.
Next, prepare the soil. You will need to get rid of the grass and break up the dirt to make it easier for things to grow. A tiller is the easiest. Pitchfork is cheaper and a good workout. If there is grass there now you can use a flat shovel and make your own sod to transplant. Also, you can put clear plastic or newspaper of the grass for a while to kill it and make turning over the ground easier.
After that, pick what you want to plant and start growing.
Good Luck
Reply:this is a broad question,
If your soil is good spade up a spot for your garden.
If your soil is rocky or clay it would be simpler to use a raised bed(s). Raised beds are a form, such as a rock boarder or wood boarder. Fill these forms with good soil with a generous helping of organic matter
.
good luck

Reply:Start slowly or you will have big disappointments. Determine the kind of soil you have and make any amendments (lime, fertilzier, etc. The best way to begin is to get soil sample from where you want your garden and have the soil samples analyzed by your local Agricultural extension. The report will tell you everything you need to know about your soil. I began many gardens without this step and had many disappointments. The secret to a good garden is to begin with good soil. Next, plan your location carefully. My girlfriend lost her whole garden because she chose a location close to a groundhog haven. For vegetables such as tomatoes, eggplant, sunflowers, you will need a spot that will get 8 hours of sun. Begin with simple herbs such as sage, hyssop, savory and oregano. If you want mints, contain them. Mints will spread and take over your whole garden. Best to keep in a container or have underground barriers around the plant. Begin with a basic garden and dont go real big. A garden is alot of work so if you start slow you can determine if you want to put in the time and the effort to have a larger area.
Reply:You should defintely ask Jack for some magic beans. ( sorry, I really don't know =( but with all the effort you're making, your boyfriend will LOVE it )
Reply:it probably depends on where you live. in OH i grow corn, green peppers, tomatoes, zucchini, and this year i'm going to try butternut squash. if you have any questions just e-mail me.
Reply:My best suggestion to you would be to go to your local library and pick up a few books on gardening before you start anything. These with give you all the info you need and more if you are brand new to gardening! Good luck!
Reply:at first prepare tha soil and put some manure as basal take pits or lione sowing to be one whichever s possible
Reply:you could go to a store and ask if they have the kind of flower seeds you want and then you have to like a spot were you can start your garden. it will take lots of sun and water so you would have to water them everday.
