How do I deal with snails in my garden?

I have just discovered a large colony of snails under a plant in my garden. Can anyone tell me what is the best way to get rid of them?

How do I deal with snails in my garden?
You have to go out at night with a torch because that's when they come out and collect them in a bucket . Then you have to dab em on their little shells with a bit of tippex, and then put them all over the hedge into next door or in the back field (that's what I do) and then the next night you go out with your torch and see how many have come back. You don't get rid of them this way but it's a fun way to pass the time.

If you want rid of em take em at least a mile down the road or take them to your local common and give em their freedom.
Reply:Salt. But don't recommend you stick around to watch - very very sad.
Reply:slug pellets.
Reply:put grit under the plant they dont like crawling over it
Reply:SALT good old common household salt just pour it on the or lay a circle round them they will melt when they try to cross it

if this is not to your liking just stamp on them and end it quick
Reply:certain plants attract slugs and snails--eg marigolds,cosmo,fushia,s--- blue slug pellets scattered round pot will cure, copper pipeing works better, salt not recomended as if it seeps into earth all other plants will dye,and you will have trouble growing anythink then, bowl of beer nr pot will also work.
Reply:put some slug pellets or bleach down ! slug pellet is the best if you dont want to damage your flowers x
Reply:put salt on them
Reply:Fill a small metal cup (like the kind that tuna or cat food comes in) with beer and place it near the snails. They will be attracted to it, fall in and drown.
Reply:Slug pellets, I caught 30 in one day. I must admit I felt a bit bad but they are so destructive.
Reply:Put Salt on them..it makes them shrivell up and die!!=D
Reply:Don`t know, tried many times but to no avail. Don`t use slug pellets they kill hedgehogs and thrushes and no matter how many snail and slugs that you kill there are never any less in your garden. I have a theory that lepoard slugs eat other slugs. However they are the first to eat slug pellets. This is why they are dying out and more destructive slugs and snails are inreasing. If you throw snails into your neighbours garden they will find their way back to you.

Nowadays I leave all of the tops and seedheads on my plants untill the spring to encourage bugs -and hopefully mollusc predators-I put soot and grit on some areas and try to garden without using plants that are over suceptable to slug and snail attack. After several years of this amazingly the attacks begin to reduce to an acceptable level.
Reply:You could lay some Copper wire, pipe or tape(b%26amp;q) around the base of the plant snails have a certain dislike for Copper. Salt can be used on the slugs
Reply:Treat them gently-feed them on lettuce for a few days to get rid of the toxins, then chuck 'em in boiling water for 3 minutes. My son tells me they taste rather nice.
Reply:best way to kill snails n slugs is to put out tuna cans (or any other can of similar size) filled half way with the cheapest beer you can find.

they'll be attracted to the beer, then they'll drown in it. really, the type of beer doesn't matter, i just say cheapest because there's no point in wasting good beer on some dumb snails..
Reply:salt because if you use pellets it is poisonous and will harm other animals
Reply:a bucket of salt, or some lighter fluid and a box of matches
Reply:use lots of salt on them it works very well
Reply:Fill a shallow pot with beer, prefereably Newcastle Brown or Guinness. They crawl in, become intoxicated, and then drwon in the beer.

Failing that stalk your garden with a blowtorch after dark and after rain and fry 'em! Or the old favourite, salt. Or slug pellets if you haven't got pets about.
