When is an eggplant in a garden ready to pick from the garden?

I have several eggplants in my garden and I don't know at what point they would be consider big enough to pick, or if they are ready to be picked if they are only about six inches.

Eggplants aren't fussy. When they're a size you like, pick 'em.

Eggplants picked on the small side tend to be tender %26amp; delicious.
Reply:You should gently squeeze it. If it is hard, it is not yet ripe. Once the eggplant is tender to the touch, it is ready.
