How can i kill all the weeds in my garden?

i'm just doing my garden up and where i got weed i wanna put gravel instead.any suggestions please?

Just did mine too. Had to pull everything out and till it. I use 2-4-D. Its a broad leaf killer and will harm some plants, but safe for most and I use it to spray the yard-doesn't kill grass. I re-use my Windex sprayers for shooting close to plants. Don't do it on windy days.



The gravel will choke most of the weeds out, but there is no better fix than on your hands and knees every 2 weeks unless you till it all in, put down weed block and fill with gravel.



Most weed killers are topical kills. It only kills what the product hits and has no residual-meaning it doesn't soak into the ground and continue to kill. SO you can remove everything, spray it,till it and replant with no harm done to plants even with Round Up.

Reply:All previous are good answers. The solution is to plant your garden after the soil prep. Make sure you have the proper additvives incorporporated into the soil and let it settle for two days before planting.

Go to a Nursery that specializes in Landscape Contractor supplies. Purchase Dyclomec 5G. This is a gem in that it will kill existing weeds and is a pre-emergent. Preen is a milder form of the same chemical and also useful. The Dyclomec will last all season if the soil is not disturbed and should be applied over the mulch application to your garden.

Reply:I would say to be careful with herbicides because their residues can kill future plantings, but if all you want to do is cover the bed with gravel, then it doesn't matter. I used Round-up on my yard's crabgrass and dandelions. The results were pretty amazing after about a week (the bottle says hours, but it's more like a week). Spray 4-5 times into the center of every weed. Precipitation doesn't effect the chemical, either. It rained the next day after I applied and it still worked.
