How can I keep cats and other animals out my garden plant pots?

I have spent quite a bit of time and money getting my garden ready for the summer, however local cats etc seem to have taken to digging up my plants.

How can I keep cats and other animals out my garden plant pots?
spray vinager around it. that should keep the cats away.
Reply:put some spikes in them so when the cats try to get in the they feel that spike instead.
Reply:Stick some twigs in the pots upright,They will not walk on them.
Reply:The best way to keep unwanted creatures out of your garden

is to purchase a packet of "Lion's " poo.it is available from very good garden centres.
Reply:Cats don't like the smell of orange peel so try chopping up some of this and scattering it in your pots
Reply:citrus..they dont like the smell...use orange peel or something of the sort :D
Reply:Buy a spray can of CANAC, it works wonders. Stopped my dog from constantly uprooting my fuchsias and stopped my cat from removing the seal from around the double glazing.
Reply:Lemon peel or lots of twigs.
Reply:To keep the cats from using the pots as a litterbox, I place pinecones on the top of the dirt. Have used plastic forks stuck into the dirt also, tines up. I also sprinkle the cheap cayanne pepper (from Dollar stores) on the leaves and dirt.
Reply:Sprinkle onions round the plants or put orange peel round the plants... cats hate the smell and also you are not harming them
Reply:You could buy some netting to cover the plants or buy some cat repel-ant stuff from the local garden centre
Reply:Buy some decorating stones or shingle and arrange on the pots. Or discretely add some small sticks around the pot to make it impossible to stand in (for a cat anyway). This works well and looks better than the garden being full of the contents of your bin.
Reply:Try mothballs!
Reply:there is a hose on the market that comes on when any thing is in the area similar to an out side light it will get rid of your unwonted guests
Reply:a cheap and easy way is to fill up clear plastic bottles with water place them in front of the pot because a cat will not pass its own reflection
Reply:Cayan Pepper does the trick for me.
Reply:You can put a layer of mesh wire or screen over the dirt in the pot. That take the animals fun away from digging.
