How do I keep rabbits and squirrels from eating my garden vegetables?

I live in a very woodsy area and am worried that if I try to plant a garden all of the rabbits and squirrels will eat the food before they can be picked.

How do I keep rabbits and squirrels from eating my garden vegetables?
plant marigolds around the garden.

take chicken wire and run it along the fence bottom and back into the yard about a foot (kind of an L shape) so it presses along the ground, rabbits and other critters do not like the feel of the mesh pressing down when they try to go under.

you can make a spray with jalapenos or habenaros(4) garlic (head) onions (1) chop themin a food processor add one gallon water set in a bucket and cover, lets this stand in the sun for a day or 2, strain off the liquid and dilute with 1/2 the amount of water and put into a hand held sprayer.

spray your plants and the perimeter of the garden, this is non toxic and you are safe to eat the foods after BUT wash them and becareful this is stinky and hot but it repels bugs as well. you can also buy this premade.

use human hair around the garden, a barber will generally give this to you, you can take a strong soap like irish spring tie chunks of it in net bags and tie to fencing about the garden. foil pie tins and such punctured and strung to hang and flash from fencing.

check sites like mother earth news for more tips, look up organic gardening and use you local agricultural extension office. look for gardening books like victory garden, square foot gardening and info from Jerry Baker.

Reply:Landmines

(sorry, couldn;t help myself :))
Reply:Not sure but I think some people put a net over their vegetables. Or build an mini cage thing with wire fence and roof and grow the veges in there.
Reply:put scarerabbit or scaresquirrel...like the scarecrow which would scare the crow.
Reply:You've to net them off with good net over the top.
Reply:My husbands dad had a huge garden every year for most of his life and he always planted marigolds in his garden to keep the squirrels away. Another thing is to put down moth balls (i know they stink) around the perimeter of the garden, or try spraying the plants with a jalapeno water solution (take several jalapenos and water, toss into the blender and liquefy it. strain the water out and dilute a little more with water.) Spray this on the plants and that should help... Also keeps the deer away.
Reply:Try a product called liquid fence, or try Couger urine, buy some, don't try to get it fresh. LOL
Reply:A 22 works perfectly!
Reply:Sonic repelers

Keep a cat

keep them in a green house with good foundations

Sit outside at night with a gun and shoot them dead and then display the corpses on sticks at the edge of the garden to warn the other animals of impending doom.

Reply:Since you live in a woodsy area it would be a great idea if you would built a small caged fence around your garden to warn-off unwanted rabbits or squirrles.
