How do I get rid of ants in my vege garden?

There are so many ants in my vege garden that they are digging up the roots of all my seedlings. I have ant sand but it says "do not use on edible crops". How do I get rid of the ants without poisoning my vegetables??

Can you live with them? They won't harm your garden or your plants. I would certainly not put any chemicals near your veggies, no matter how "safe"!!!
Reply:Diazon Granules or powder works well for killing off ants. Put it on top of the ant hills where the holes are. I go thru the same thing of ants every year in my garden too. You can also sprinkle it on the trails of the ants. It can be found in the insectisde secion of stores like Walmart, Fred Meyer, etc.
Reply:I heard that ants aren't going to harm your garden. They will actually attack spider mites and other damaging bugs in your garden. I leave mine alone unless they are the big red fire ants.
Reply:Try sprinkling red pepper around your plants. It's suppose to deter them. I tried it last year in my flower garden and it seemed to help. Good luck!
Reply:Diazon Granules
Reply:I would use a pesticide called "Sevin".It will not poison your veggies but there may be a harvest interval with regards to different crops. All that means is that depending on the crop, will determine how long you can wait till harvest after application. All that info should be on the package. If you are unsure call the national pesticide hot line, they will be glad to help.
Reply:simple non toxic solution, talcum powder, its so slippery the ants cannot navigate on it. Suggest the non perfumed one or you could have more than ants to get rid of.

cheers
